I was thinking over the weekend, as I experienced yet another set back in my "emotional development" what my idols are, and what my idols should be, or if I should have any idols at all?
What do you spend the majority of your day doing? What do you spend the most time agonizing over, worrying about, thinking about, talking about.
If it is something that doesn't fill your heart with joy, you might need to think about rearranging your priorities. If it is a spouse, a friend, or a family member, come to peace with the fact that just because they are your idol, it does not make them perfect. Because they are human, they will fail you.
Do you have someone in your life that you can say for sure will never fail you? Do you believe in something that is true? Who meets in your place of fear, who meets you in your place of tears, and brokenness. Who comforts you.
Is 49:16 See I will not forget you, I have you engraved on the palms of my hands.
